Jeep re-launched the Jeep Compass 2012 model at the 2011 Detroit auto show, trying to shed the previous impression in the industry that the car was not worthy of the Jeep brand. The new Jeep Compass 2012 gets an optional off-road package earning it Jeep’s Trail Rated designation.
The 2012 Jeep Compass is an affordable compact SUV, designed to bring the Jeep name to a broader range of drivers with its car-like on-road capability and fuel economy. The Jeep Compass 2012 price will start between $19,295–$26,045. Redesigned last year, the Jeep Compass 2012 carries over with minimal changes for 2012.

The 2012 Jeep Compass sees some minor trim changes following its model-year 2011 freshening. This Jeep Compass 2012 shares its basic design with the Jeep Patriot and Dodge Caliber. Jeep Compass 2012 seats 5 and comes in base Sport, mid-line Latitude, and top-end Limited trim levels. Each Jeep Compass 2012 trims is available with front-wheel drive or one of two all-wheel-drive systems.

The standard Freedom Drive I automatically shifts power to wheels that need traction and includes a switch to lock in a 50/50 front/rear power split. The optional Freedom Drive II includes hill-start assist, hill-descent control, and a locking rear differential. Standard on the front-drive Jeep Compass 2012 Sport and Latitude is a 158-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Optional on those models and standard on all other Jeep Compass 2012 is a 172-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine.

A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on the Sport Jeep Compass 2012. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic is optional on the Sport Jeep Compass 2012 and standard otherwise. Like in the Jeep Compass Limited 2011, a navigation system is optional on the Limited Jeep Compass 2012.

The Jeep Compass 2012 is capable of heading off-road, but other SUVs, like the Jeep Wrangler, are better. Even though the Jeep Compass 2012 isn’t the best off-road SUV for rock climbing or trudging through creeks, it does have some off-road power. Test drivers think the Jeep Compass 2012 will appeal to the buyer Compass with its low base price and good fuel economy.
And because it is a crossover, which means it has car-like handling, the Jeep Compass 2012 is more practical for commutes to the office than other off-road vehicles. But if you need one of the most capable off-road SUVs on the market, the Jeep Compass 2012 isn’t it; the Jeep Wrangler is the best option. The Jeep Compass is one of the least expensive off-road SUVs, but upgrading to the more expensive Jeep Wrangler will be worth the extra cost if you need one of the best off-road SUVs on the market.
Competitors of the Jeep Compass 2012
Jeep Compass 2012 release date is not announced official yet, however many reviews has been made for the coming car from Jeep. If the Jeep Compass 2012 affordability lures you in, you will have to make compromises. Inside, the Jeep Compass 2012 lacks standard amenities, like a USB port, that shoppers seek. It also doesn’t have a ton of cargo space, so if the Jeep Compass 2012 will double as a family hauler, you’ll get more utility with the Honda CR-V.

No compact SUV in this class is exceptionally powerful, but for more refined performance, you will have to sacrifice off-road prowess. The Volkswagen Tiguan, for example, is the most fun-to-drive vehicle in the class, but it’s a sophisticated compact SUV, not a rock-climber. However, if you really need an affordable off-road SUV, the Jeep Compass 2012 offers a suitable balance between workplace commutes and off-road adventures.
