The 2014 Cadillac CTS has always been a bit of a anomaly in the luxury segment, spanning the space between the entry-level BMW 3 Series/Mercedes-Benz C-Class/Audi A4 and mid-size 5 Series/E-Class/A6. But with the introduction of the 2013 Cadillac ATS, the 2014 Cadillac CTS has room to grow, and based on these first set of spy shots, it’s doing just that.
In addition to switching from the Sigma platform to the lighter Alpha component set, the 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan will likely the only form to come. GM is hedging its CAFE bets by preparing the 2014 Cadillac CTS for a four-cylinder turbo, but on arrival, a 2.8-liter V-6 is more probable (a larger, 3.6-liter V-6 should still be an option).
These first photos of the 2014 Cadillac CTS redesign show the first complete bodies of the new car undergoing testing and development. Based off a stretched version of the Alpha platform that’s underpinning its smaller sibling, the 2014 Cadillac CTS wheelbase is likely to grow a few inches, affording rear seat passengers up to 40 inches of leg room.
While the 2014 Cadillac CTS front overhangs are still short and will continue on with Cadillac’s Art and Science design motif with angular headlamps that stretch up the front fenders, the rear will likely extend a bit further back, maximizing trunk room in the process.
The hood, front fascia, front fenders, and headlights will all be new for the 2014 Cadillac CTS model, likely sharing some family resemblance to the new Escalade 2012, though also likely in a more dramatic, edgy way. The 2014 Cadillac CTS rear will also be fully revised, judging by the covers while the tail lights look to feature LED lighting and the head lights get small vertical LED daytime running lamps, too.
So far, information on the mechanical underpinnings of the 2014 Cadillac CTS are scarce. 2014 Cadillac CTS is likely to be built on the same Alpha platform as the ATS, but beyond that, specifics like engines, transmissions, power, or gas mileage are in the dark.
Even being based on the Alpha platform is a rather abstract concept these days, meaning little more than sharing some components on a potentially very different chassis. As it likely will share the ATS platform–a global architecture that also may spawn a new Camaro–the 2014 Cadillac CTS will likely continue to offer V-6 and V-8 engines and the ATS’ turbocharged four-cylinder is a possibility.
All-wheel drive is expected to make an appearance in the 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan. And as it does today, the next CTS family will likely include the 2014 Cadillac CTS coupe. If automotive journalists have their say, the stunning 2014 Cadillac CTS Wagon will get a follow-up act, too.

Cadillac CTS is a very, very good car in many ways–so updating the car for 2014 is perhaps the most important thing Cadillac has on its table right now.
The 2014 Cadillac CTS redesign is expected to grow up a little, pitting it directly against competitors like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-Series; that was the mission of the old Cadillac STS, too, but it went out of production in 2011.
