The future generation of the BMW X5 SUV, the 2013 BMW X5, expected to debut somewhere in 2013 and known as F40 inside the German company might adopt a new lightweight chassis, an aluminum one, instead the steel one that is used for the German SUV now. The third generation of the 2013 BMW X5 is likely to introduce a new chassis, able to reduce of course, the mass of the model but also to not forget the consequences of this change, which is the higher power-to-weight ratio and the improved fuel consumption.
The F40 platform in the 2013 BMW X5 is rumored to feature a modular design, a common trend in the BMW 2013 models, which allows the company to achieve significant savings across its lineup. Design wise, the 2013 BMW X5 changes is said to feature more flowing character lines and sculpted surfaces that will broaden the design of the X family.
At the front end, the new 2013 BMW X5 will feature a more imposing kidney grille, larger and wider than in the current model. The 2013 BMW X5 headlights will get the LED treatment and the shape will follow the design seen on some of the recently unveiled BMW X5 redesign 2012 models, the taillights will be slightly redesigned as well. Using the layering concept seen on the Vision concepts, the T-shaped taillights add more depth to surfaces and are less wrapped around the 2013 BMW X5 body.
On the side, the 2013 BMW X5 character line is being enhanced, as we have seen on the new X3 as well. Expect to see more convex/concave shapes with 3D layering enhancing the 2013 BMW X5 masculine look. It is unknown at the moment if the dimensions of the new 2013 BMW X5 will be increased, the current X5 can already accommodate 7 passengers if needed.
According to sources, the new 2013 BMW X5 will feature for the first time the ActiveHybrid technology with a 2.0 liter four-cylinder diesel engine. The internal combustion engine in the 2013 BMW X5 is aided by a 15 kilowatt electric motor that ads another 17 horsepower on top of the 204 already delivered by the diesel power unit.
Furthermore, the new 2013 BMW X5 Hybrid is said to use two parallel vehicle electrical systems, a conventional 12 volt system supplied by the AGM starter battery and an additional 120 volt system that’s supplied by a generator and lithium-ion battery pack located in the luggage compartment.
Rather than a conventional engine-driven generator like in the BMW X5 redesign 2012 models, a compact generator is integrated in the aluminum crankcase housing for the 2013 BMW X5. The high-power electronic system is flange-mounted directly onto the gearbox for a more compact design and the Brake Energy Regeneration helps recharging the 2013 BMW X5 hybrid battery.

In 2013, BMW will unveil the 2013 BMW X5 which is also rumored to sport a more dynamic character and sportier design lines. The 2013 BMW X5 will compete in the premium market along with the Jaguar SUV, Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz ML. Recently, the newly launched XJ and XF models have been competing directly with the BMW 5 and 7 Series.
And these new vehicles have been highly praised by many automotive journalists. Same magazine reports that the all-new model is at the full-size clay-model stage, although design freeze is still some way off. With the 2013 BMW X5 release date is scheduled for 2013, we expect the first prototypes to hit the road at the end of this year.
