Audi has released a batch of official design sketches revealing the new Audi A3 2012 concept. This is our first glimpse of the new Audi A3 2012 hatch, A3 Sportback and A3 saloon. The Audi A3 2012 hatch will be lower and sleeker than today’s car. An S3 performance version of the Audi A3 2012 Sedan will be available while an RS3 has been worked upon although not yet approved.
The 2012 Audi A3 Sportback will stick with its taller, roomier brief, whereas the saloon/Slantback is positioned more as a saloon/four-door coupe mash-up. The Audi A3 2012 cabrio will be based on the notchback, not the hatch. Audi’s upcoming Audi A3 2012 has been spied in testing again, and this time we’ve got the first un-camouflaged images of the hatch’s interior.
As expected, the ready-to-go design of the dash in March‘s Audi A3 2012 concept will carry over virtually unchanged into the final production car, among the few standout differences are the different colour scheme: the black dash switches replacing the 2012 Audi A3 Concept silver units, and the simplified air-conditioning controls below.
A six-speed manual shifter replaces the button and dial automatic transmission of the Audi A3 2012 concept. The Audi A3 2012 interior door panels are also largely identical to their concept counterparts, differing only in colour and stitching. These new 2012 Audi A3 pics also suggest that if the Audi A3 2012 interior is a virtual carbon copy of the concept’s cabin, we can likely expect the external styling to come very close to the concept’s design.
The Audi A3 2012 concept was powered by Audi’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine, producing 403bhp and 368 lb ft of torque. Linked to a seven-speed S-tronic auto gearbox the Audi A3 2012 was capable of 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds before reaching the electronic limited at 155mph.
However, the production version of the Audi A3 2012, which is expected to debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, is likely to be rather different. The 2012 Audi A3 specifications will feature a new 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with cylinder activation technology developed by the Volkswagen Group.
Producing 138bhp, the Audi A3 2012 engine can shut down cylinders to achieve optimum fuel efficiency in certain driving conditions. During light acceleration or cruising, two cylinders will shut down, in effect creating a twin-cylinder engine. Other Audi A3 2012 engines expected to join the lineup include a frugal new three-cylinder diesel and a natural gas unit.
Audi A3 2012 Competitors
The Audi A3 2012 release date is expected to be launched in 2012, will make a leap forward. Audi A3 2012 is based on VW’s new “Modularer Querbaukasten” (MQB) architecture, meaning “modular transverse matrix” which is the Volkswagen Group’s new modular transverse-engine platform, which is slightly longer and wider than the current A3 platform and designed to take further cost out of the many variations offered by Volkswagen and its Audi, SEAT, and Škoda subsidiaries.
The Audi A3 2012 fiercest competitor is a close relative, the VW Golf, a car that makes it hard to justify the big price of the little Audi. Since the debut of the current, sixth-generation Golf—essentially a highly successful face lift of the Golf MkV, a.k.a. Rabbit—the Audi A3 2012 looks somewhat dated. A few minor freshening have kept the Audi A3 2012 ahead of the now-gone Golf V in terms of style, but the Golf VI is so well executed that Audi needs a new car to keep up. The Audi A3 2012 price will be unveiled later.
