Audi is still busily testing the 2012 Audi RS4 on the Nurburgring circuit. Over the past couple of years, there have been many indications that the Audi RS4 will not get a new version ever again. These rumors have been furthered confirmed by the launch of the 2012 Audi RS4. The new Audi RS4 2012 is scheduled to make an appearance before the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, but this 2012 Audi RS4 will only be available in Avant version (Audi RS4 Avant).

The new 2012 Audi RS4 will hide under the bonnet the 4.2-liter V8, capable of producing 450 horsepower and can develop a maximum torque of 430 Nm which is transmitted to wheels through an S-tronic gearbox with seven reports. Up front of 2012 Audi RS4, the air intakes have been enlarged to provide additional cooling for the engine – likely to be the same 444bhp 4.2-litre V8 as the RS5, connected to a seven-speed S Tronic twin-clutch gearbox. 2012 Audi RS4 performance will be similar too, with a 0-62mph time in around 4.5 seconds and a 155mph limited top speed.

This is a car we’re very excited about, the 2012 Audi RS4 Avant. Spotted testing on the roads around the Nurburgring, 2012 Audi RS4 slots the RS5’s enticing V8 engine and four-wheel package into the much more practical A4 Avant body. This mule is far from the finished spec (the bodywork is standard S4 Avant bar the tweaked front bumper to provide extra cooling for the engine) but this 2012 Audi RS4 does sport 20-inch ‘Rotor’ alloys from the RS5, plus RS-branded calipers and bigger brakes – the S4 doesn’t have drilled discs. And we hear that just as the new BMW M5 is expected to only be available as a saloon, the 2012 Audi RS4 will only come in estate guise – there’s no place for the four-door between the RS5 coupe and this Avant.

Beyond that 2012 Audi RS4 specifications above, there’ll be RS-specific seats and trimmings inside, the trademark twin oval exhausts and aluminium-look door mirrors, full suspension and chassis updates, and beefier bodywork. With the first mule only appearing now, it’ll be a while yet before the 2012 Audi RS4 release date appears in production guise; reckon on a debut at the 2012 Geneva motor show, with UK sales starting towards the end of next year.
